Family Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Family visa is a visitor’s visa issued in terms of Section 11(1) of the Immigration Act. It allows one to visit South Africa for the purpose of visiting family or friends.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

For our long is it issued for?
90 days.

Can I change the conditions or extend this this visa?
Spouses and Dependent children of South African citizens or permanent resident holders can change the conditions inside of South Africa.

This visa can also be extended inside of South Africa.

Visa for Business purposes

What does this visa allow me to do?
A visa for business purposes is a visitor’s visa issued in terms of Section 11(1) of the Immigration Act. It allows one to visit South Africa for the purpose of attending business meetings or workshops or conferences or training.

It is not the same as a Business Visa which allows one to operate and run a business in South Africa.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

90 days.

Short Term Work Authorization

What does this visa allow me to do?
A visa for business purposes is a visitor’s visa issued in terms of Section 11(2) of the Immigration Act. It allows one to visit South Africa for short periods for the purpose of conducting work activities ordinarily associated with one’s profession.

It is designed for those companies who need to send their employees to South Africa to fulfil a contractual obligation with a South African company/institution.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

For our long is it issued for?
90 days.

Can I change the conditions or extend this this visa?
It is not possible to change the conditions of this this visa inside of South Africa.

Dependent Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A dependent visa is issued in terms of Section 11(1)(b)(iv) of the Immigration Act. It allows one to join ones dependent spouse or parent who holds a long term visa for South Africa. For example, if your husband, holds a valid Critical Skills visa, then you can join your husband by applying a dependent visa.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

Yes, it is possible to change the conditions of this visa or apply for extensions of this visa.

Academic Sabbatical Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
An Academic Sabbatical Visa is issued in terms of Section 11(1)(b)(i) of the Immigration Act. It allows applicants to spend a period of time in South Africa on an academic sabbatical.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

Up to three years at a time.

Voluntary visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
An Volunteer Visa is issued in terms of Section 11(1)(b)(ii) of the Immigration Act. It allows applicants to volunteer or conduct charitable activities inside of South Africa. Generally this visa is used by faith based intuitions who utilise volunteers in their organisations.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

Up to three years at a time.

Research Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Research Visa is issued in terms of Section 11(1)(b)(iii) of the Immigration Act. It allows applicants to conduct research activities inside of South Africa. Generally, this visa is used by academics to conduct post doctorial research at tertiary institutions in South Africa.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

Up to three years at a time.

Study Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Study Visa is issued in terms of Section 13 of the Immigration Act. It is required by any applicant who intends to study at Primary, Secondary or Tertiary level in South Africa.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

For our long is it issued for?
For the duration of the study period depending on certain conditions.

Can I change the conditions or extend this this visa?

Treaty Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Treat Visa is issued in terms of Section 14 of the Immigration Act. It is required by any applicant who intends conducting activities in South African in terms of international agreements which South Africa is a signatory to.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

For the duration of the activity in question.

Business Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Business Visa is issued in terms of Section 15 of the Immigration Act. It is required by any applicant who intends to invest in or operate a new business or an existing business.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

For our long is it issued for?
Up to 3 years at a time.

Medical Treatment Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Medical Treatment visa is issued in terms of Section 17 of the Immigration Act. It is required by any applicant who intends to undergo medical treatment in South Africa.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

For our long is it issued for?
Up to 6 months at a time.

Relatives Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Relatives Visa allows a relative of a South African citizen or permanent resident holder to stay with them in South Africa. Only certain relatives may be accommodated on this visa, for example, Dependent spouses and children, parents and immediate brothers and sisters.

In the case of dependent relatives of South African citizens or permanent residence, an application can also be made to allow the spouse to study, work or operate a business in South Africa.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

General Work Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A General work visa is issued in terms of Section 19(2) of the Immigration Act. It allows a suitably qualified applicants to work in any industry or any capacity. The fundamental basis of this visa is that the South African company must proof why they are unable to employ a South African citizen or Permanent residence in the position that is being offered.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

Critical Skills Work Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Critical Skills work visa is issued in terms of Section 19(4) of the Immigration Act. It allows a suitably qualified applicants who possess critical skills to apply for this visa.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

Up to 5 years at a time.

Retired person Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
A Retired Person Visa is issued in terms of Section 20(1)(a) or (b) of the Immigration Act. It allows an applicant to effectively retire in South Africa provided they can meet certain monetary requirements.

Where is it issued?
This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.
It can also under certain circumstances be issued inside of South Africa.

For our long is it issued for?
Up to 4 years at a time.

Exchange Visa

What does this visa allow me to do?
An Exchange Visa is issued in terms of Section 22 (a) or (b) of the Immigration Act. It resembles “holiday working “programs that is available in many countries. It is also designed to accommodate exchange programmes between various organisations.

This visa can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

For the duration of the exchange programme

Can I change the conditions or extend this this visa?
No. This visa cannot be extended.

Permanent Residence

What does Permanent residence allow me to do?
An Permanent residence is issued in terms of Section 25 (1) of the Immigration Act. It resembles effectively allows a qualifying applicant to the ability to reside permanently in South Africa.

Where is it issued?
Permanent residence can be submitted outside of South Africa through South African Embassies and Consulates.

Permanent residence can also be submitted inside of South Africa provided the applicant has a valid visa.

For our long is it issued for?
Its indefinitely issued, subject to terms and conditions.
